If the original material was published in the United States before 1923, it is in the public domain and can be used without permission from the current publisher. In some cases Hendrickson holds the rights to the typesetting of such materials. In that event, Hendrickson grants educational and other not-for-profit institutions permission to photocopy these materials free of charge for the use of their own constituents. They should be correctly cited, including author, title, copyright date, and publisher.
Copyright protection remains in effect irrespective of a book’s out-of-print status. Please check with Hendricksons Customer Service Department at firstname.lastname@example.org to determine availability. In some cases retailers such as Christian Book Distributors will have stock when Hendrickson Publishers no longer does.
If you wish to use Hendrickson material in a course-pack, electronic or otherwise, or in other educational (i.e. conference, seminar) settings, please contact the Copyright Clearance Center.
Hendrickson Publishers hereby grants churches, parachurch organizations, synagogues, and other not-for-profit organizations permission to use material from publications copyrighted by Hendrickson Publishers in their Sunday bulletins, newsletters, and other short-term non-book publications free of charge within the following limits: the paragraphs quoted must not amount to a complete chapter of the Hendrickson material or account for fifty percent (50%) of the total work in which they are quoted. Notice of copyright must appear in the work as follows: “[Title] by [author], copyright [date] by Hendrickson Publishers, Peabody, Massachusetts. Used by permission. All rights reserved.”
Hendrickson materials may be quoted and/or reprinted up to and inclusive of 250 words without express written permission of the publisher, provided the paragraphs quoted do not amount to a complete chapter or other stand-alone (such as an entry in a devotional book or collection of stories or sermons) of the Hendrickson material or account for fifty percent (50%) of the total work, individual chapter, or stand-alone in which they are quoted. Notice of copyright must appear on the title or copyright page of the work as follows: “[Title] by [Author], copyright [date] by Hendrickson Publishers, Peabody, Massachusetts. Used by permission. All rights reserved.”
