PEABODY, MA—Hendrickson Publishers’ editorial team is growing with the addition of Dr. Jonathan Kline as its newest editorial associate, who will report to the newly appointed editorial director, Patricia Anders.

Kline, who was a member of the editorial team on a part-time consulting basis this spring and who joined the company full time early in the summer, brings a wealth of scholarly ability, theological awareness, and editorial experience to Hendrickson.

Working closely with the current senior academic editor, Allan Emery, Kline has already begun to play a key role in managing and editing books on various topics related to biblical studies, including the social and cultural worlds of the Old and New Testaments, the interpretation and compositional history of biblical books, ancient languages, and biblical theology.

“Jonathan has already begun a great work here, and he will continue to play a key role in maintaining Hendrickson’s vision and status within the academic publishing community,” says Anders. “His work on both the Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia: A Reader’s Edition and the Dictionary of Daily Life in Biblical and Post-Biblical Antiquity has been instrumental.” Both books have been published this fall.

Kline will also be acquiring new books for Hendrickson, with a particular view toward carrying on the company’s rich tradition of publishing high-quality scholarship in a variety of areas, especially: biblical languages and reference; studies on biblical books, corpora (e.g., Pentateuch, Wisdom Literature, Prophets, Gospels), text genres (e.g., law, poetry, apocalyptic), and themes; biblical theology; innerbiblical interpretation; New Testament use of the Old Testament; Dead Sea Scrolls; Septuagint; the history of biblical interpretation; social, cultural, and historical backgrounds of the Bible; hermeneutics; and archaeology.

Prior to coming to Hendrickson, Kline served on the editorial team of the Harvard Theological Review and was a teaching fellow at Harvard University, where he taught both undergraduate and graduate students. He received his Ph.D. in Hebrew Bible from Harvard’s Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, an M.A. in Biblical Languages from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and his B.A. in Near Eastern Studies from Cornell University.
